From your standpoint, I invite you to think of this wave as representing nursing home costs and what it does to your estate if you do not properly plan for it.

This picture reminds me of a married couple who are estate planning clients of mine and they had entered into separate nursing homes a few years ago. When they entered the nursing homes, their estate was somewhere between a half million and a million dollars. The cost of nursing home care was approximately $80,000 per year for each of them. Before they went into the nursing home, I asked them if they wanted to do some medicaid planning. Their answer was, "No." This was four years ago. They now have nothing left to pass on to their family.
